Civics Students Supporting Rare Plant Boxwood | 27 Jul 2016


Students from the public school of the village Gachedili decided to save the unique evergreen shrub Buxus Colchica, a Georgian variety of Boxwood, a rare plant, which is included into the "Red Book" of Georgia. Boxwood suffers from pandemic plant decease especially in Samegrelo and Adjara regions.

“School of Self-governance for Civics Students” | 22 Jul 2016


A three-day camp, “School of Self-governance for Civics Students”, was held in Tskaltubo. Participants of the school were students from MT partner schools in Imereti, Racha–Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regions. The aim of the camp was to provide information about self-governance, in particular its functions, rights, responsibilities, and budget. Students also completed internships at Kutaisi City Hall and learned about the work of different departments. Students met with the governor and deputy governor of the Kutaisi City Assembly and asked many questions.

Students’ Efforts to Improve School Outdoor Infrastructure | 19 Jul 2016


Students of Tbilisi Public School #141, sponsored by an MT mini-grant, initiated the improvement of the space outside their school to create a healthy environment. To reach the goal of their project, the students mobilized the school administration and parents around this idea.

Young Blogger and Journalist- Levan Samadashvili - Student from Bakurtsikhe School | 15 Jul 2016


Levan Samadashvili from the Bakurtsikhe village public school in Gurjaani municipality is an active participant in the MT program. He has been actively involved in trainings, competitions, and activities of the program. He became especially interested in social media. After creating his own blog, Levan took part in the blog contest announced by MT and won the second place in the category of Citizen Journalist.

Partnership between Students and Local Government Leads to Better School Infrastructure | 12 Jul 2016


Located in Tetritskaro municipality, Village Ertsi public school had a water supply system problem for years. For sewage needs, school community was using rain water. As for potable water, students and school personnel were bringing water from home.

Social media for positive change | 8 Jul 2016


In the frame of the nationwide competition “Social Media for Positive Changes”, organized as part of the MT program’s social media component, civics club students of Tbilisi public school # 30 decided to translate educational videos into sign language for children with hearing loss. Students created a Facebook page and YouTube channel for sharing the translated videos. Number of different blogs was also actively used.

Civic Students Supporting Children with Special Needs | 6 Jul 2016


Beneficiaries of day center for the children with special needs of Village Ustera received a parcel with a title: “Presents from Village Utsera Public School Civics Students”. Parcel included handmade dolls and puppets made by civics students for the day center beneficiaries.

End of Academic Year Events | 22 Jun 2016


In June, 2016 MT program school-based civics clubs students participated in the end of academic year events to present their civics activities work that brought benefits to their schools and communities. Civics clubs displayed the photos and posters, featuring their initiatives for civic participation, advocacy efforts for disadvantaged groups of society, environmental cleaning and greening actions, and initiatives to support their peers in need.

National Fair-Conference of Civics Teachers | 31 May 2016


On May 28, 2016 Ms. Lia Gigauri, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Ms. Marina Ushveridze, Chief of Party of “Momavlis Taoba” program and Ms. Nino Buachidze, USAID representative welcomed participants of Civics Teachers’ National Fair-Conference at the Tbilisi Exhibition Center.
