On October 28, 2014, IDEA trainers in Rivne held a training course to teach a group of youth studying at a local Economic, Humanitarian and Engineering College how to use Windows Movie Maker. By the end of the training, every participant managed to create his or her own short movie.
After selecting the schools from five Georgian regions to be involved in PH International -Ge Calls program, education experts have started to visit each region in order to work with the selected school representatives and to help them create legal culture action plans. The Legal Culture Action plans submitted by schools included several interesting activities and events in order to secure the safe school.
Teacher’s Professional Development Center /Teachers’ House under the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science has been regularly using the ELCE/ICTE alumni teachers in various regions of Georgia as a pool of qualified teacher trainers. As Teachers’ House Teacher Trainers, ELCE/ICTE alumni have a chance to conduct trainings to other English teachers across the country and share the expertise they have gained through ELCE/ICTE programs.
GE CALLS selected its partner schools to participate in School Prevention Program during 2014-2015 academic year. Selection was made on competitive basis. The main criteria were motivation and the vision of the school regarding juvenile crime prevention.
On September 28, 2014, a presentation of computer sciences courses, that are going to be held within IDEA Project Powered by Microsoft YouthSpark implemented by PH International, was held at the Internet Center of Tokmak Central Library (Zaporizhya Oblast). Trainers of IDEA Training Center affiliated with a local youth NGO ‘Institute of Civic Development ‘Ortega-y-Gasset’ discussed with youth participants how computer programing and coding skills could help them to become more competitive in the modern technological labor market.
By the end of September, GE CALLS held School Components presentations for the principals of schools that have a chance to get involved in the program for the 2014-2015 academic year.
GE CALLS also had a series of Grants Program consultation meetings with local NGOs of all four cities. During the meetings interested organizations received desired information from the Program staff.
On Sept. 19, 2014 the group of newly recruited Access students in Goris and their instructor of English got together to meet Mr. John Heffern, the honorable U.S. Ambassador in Armenia in their first Access lesson.
The next 2-year phase of the Englis Access Microscholarhsip Program has launched for the 13-15 aged 54 students selected from the following 3 sites of Armenia: Goris, Nor Hachn and Chambarak.
Based on the information and experience acquired through ELCE and ICTE programs, a group of ELCE/ICTE alumni teachers developed teacher training modules on Teaching Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, which they submitted to the Teachers’ House (under Georgian Ministry of Education and Science) for larger scale implementation. Submitted modules have been approved by Teachers’ House (TH), however, due to senior staff turnover in TH administration, the decision is still to be taken about the target audience and the scale of implementation
