Access Students of Goris Meet with U.S. Ambassador in Armenia

Armenia | English Access Microscholarship Program | 25 Sep 2014

On Sept. 19, 2014 the group of newly recruited Access students in Goris and their instructor of English got together to meet Mr. John Heffern, the honorable U.S. Ambassador in Armenia in their first Access lesson.

The Ambassador thanked the teenagers for their motivation and interest in the Access program, for their willingness to learn English and be exposed to the new cultures. He started an interesting and thought-provoking conversation with them about volunteering and public service, about civic activism and personal responsibility for social change. The students embraced the theme and requested the Ambassador’s opinion about certain issues on education in the U.S. and in Armenia, expressed their appreciation about the life changing influence of the U.S. government run programs which they heard from some of their friends.

The Ambassador congratulated the group and wished them success in their endeavors, while the students thanked the Ambassador for the interesting and motivating conversation.
