Akhaltsikhe Youth Center Advocating for Solving Ecological Problems

On March 7, Eco-Club under Akhaltsikhe Youth Center held an event about waste management. The event aimed at raising awareness about ecological problems among community and develop an action plan for solving them. The event was attended by approximately 50 guests, including representatives of public schools, local NGOs and municipality. The members of the club explained the process and importance of waste management. They also presented photo series depicting uncontrolled landfill site caused by depositing waste on the on a site with no license to accept it by the population. Presentation was followed by discussion during which organizers together with guests figured out the key reasons of the problem and developed the list of actions to be implemented to solve it. During the meeting, the representative of Municipal Cleaning Department promised to provide technique for waste-cleaning event planned by Eco-Club, as well as to place storage bins in the yard of one of Akhaltsikhe Public Schools. Club-members suggested to public schools to form a patrol group that could take care of keeping the school territories clean. The event was finalized by putting up posters urging the population to stop polluting the city.
