During the last week of June 2013, Access program conducted Summer schools in all 10 locations of program implementation Telavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Batumi, Ozurgeti, Akhaltsikhe, Rustavi, Gori, Ambrolauri and Poti. The total of 258 Access students participated in the Summer Schools throughout the country.
On April 24, 2013 students’ online conference with Public Defender of Georgia was held at Tbilisi Multimedia Education Center. Ucha Nanuashvili, Public Defender of Georgia, answered the questions of students from Tbilisi school-based civics clubs.
On June 3, 2013 ten school-based civics clubs from Tbilisi, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli regions took part in a competition on “Ethnicities and Religions in Georgia” in Tbilisi. Competition was organized by the Tolerance Center of Georgian Public Defender’s Office. Event aimed to increase the knowledge of students about different ethnicities and religions and to promote intercultural tolerance.
With the ELCE Program ELTT, Peter Bohan and ELCE alumnae teacher Elene Changelia (from Tsalenjikha Public School #1) taking the lead, ELCE Program students breathed life into a staged performance of “Poetry is the Heart of Mine”, based on the life story of famous Georgian poet and scholar Terenti Graneli. Elene Changelia not only directed the play, but also wrote the original script. Over 100 people attended the premiere of the English performance of this original production staged at Zugdidi National Drama Theater on June 11, 2013. The Zugdidi National Drama Theater hosted the event without any charge. Among the special guests of the day were Jeremy Richart, U.S. Embassy Press Attaché as well as representatives of Zugdidi local administration and ELCE alumni teachers from Samegrelo region.
On June 9, PH organized the final integrated workshop at Batumi State University during which the ELCE Program Cycle 3 participants from Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, and Batumi gathered for the delivery of Module 10 of the ELCE curriculum. The Final integrated workshop was also attended by the representatives from PH/GE, ETAG and GU/CLED.
