Access Program Students from Gori Get Acquainted with the Lifestyle of American Schools | access ge | 7 Apr 2011


On April 7, Access Program in Gori hosted Corrie Weins, English Language Fellow, who made a presentation on Education System in the United States. Corrie Weins described the three main types of schools in America and talked of the lifestyle and routine of the American students. Corrie’s presentation was followed by a short film about the daily life of one of Chicago schools.

The two-day trainings inspired 131 young leaders from nine regions on using social media for civic initiatives and finding solutions together for issues that youth face on a daily basis.

From January 25-28, 2011, a training of civics education teacher trainers was conducted at the Centre for Training and Consultancy, in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT). The event was instrumental in preparing ACETT trainers for their upcoming work with nearly 500 civics teachers throughout Georgia.

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John R. Bass joined the Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkin to launch U.S. Government assistance for civic education for Georgian students on December 15 at Rustavi Public School #15. The Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program, implemented by PH International aims to improve the quality and scope of civic education in Georgian schools and to promote the participation of youth in Georgia’s democracy and development. The three-year program is implemented in nine regions and covers up to 500 schools.

On November 17, 2010, the regional launch of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT) was held in the town of Tevali, Georgia, in the Kakheti region of the country.
