The Second National Fair-Conference of the Civics Teachers’ Forum

On May 11, 2013 the Second National Fair-Conference of the Civics Teachers’ Forum was held at exhibition center in Tbilisi. Stephen M. Haykin, USAID Caucasus Mission Director and Aluda Goglichidze, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia opened the conference and welcomed 300 civics teachers from all regions of Georgia. The Civics Teachers’ Fair-Conference is a platform for teachers from across Georgia to discuss innovations in the field of civics education, share experiences, and participate in professional development. “As a result of the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and school principals through USAID’s ACETT program, and with the successful cooperation of local authorities, we are witnessing the establishment of a new system of civic education in Georgia. Its benefits will be felt for many years through the hands-on experience students are gaining from it” – said Mr. Haykin in his speech. Marina Ushveridze, Director of ACETT spoke about the results of ACETT and stressed out the importance of civic education for democratic development of Georgia. The first screening of the film “School Civics Clubs in Georgia” took place during the conference. The film featured the work of three civics clubs from different regions of Georgia. Participants of the conference and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia have discussed current problems in school-based civic education and potential ways for solution of these problems. Guests and participants of the forum have also viewed photo exhibition reflecting activities by school-based civics clubs. At the end of the day, the best civics teachers from all regions of Georgia were awarded. Event was covered by media. The Second National Fair-Conference of the Civics Teachers’ Forum was held in the framework of ACETT, which is implemented by PH International in partnership with the Center for Training and Consultancy. ACETT is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
