ELCE Program Conducts the Final Integrated Workshop in Batumi

Georgia | English Language through Civic Education | 9 Jun 2013

On June 9, PH organized the final integrated workshop at Batumi State University during which the ELCE Program Cycle 3 participants from Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, and Batumi gathered for the delivery of Module 10 of the ELCE curriculum. The Final integrated workshop was also attended by the representatives from PH/GE, ETAG and GU/CLED.

The main purpose of the integrated workshop was to foster professional ties and networking among the ELCE alumni coming from different regions of Georgia and give the visitor from GU/CIED, Suzanne Matula, the opportunity to collect first hand information from the ELCE participants in three different regions for the evaluation section of the final program report.

During the pedagogy and content portion of the workshop, the teachers from different regions were mixed and split into two groups each led by ELTTs from Imereti (Kirsten Mashinter) and Guria (Thomas Mallett). In the micro –teaching sessions ELCE participant teachers were given a chance to act as teacher trainers and deliver short sessions on the topics of Team-teaching and Critical Literacy and Media to their fellow teachers. “I was positively impressed by the confidence and professionalism of ELCE teachers, who conducted micro-teaching sessions today” reported Suzanne Matula, faculty member at Georgetown University Center for Language Education and Development (CLED). “If we had to assume that other ELCE teachers (which we have not had a chance to observe in the role of teacher trainers today) perform half as well, we can declare without hesitation that ELCE has reached its goal of creating a cadre of English teachers that can lead their peers in professional development” she concluded.

By the end of the workshop, ELCE teachers from all three participating regions of Imereti, Guria and Adjara made mini-posters on how ELCE has helped /benefitted them: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.418816701569890.1073741870.230262053758690&type=1
