26 Students from 14 Countries Travel to VT for Youth TechCamp | global new media | 21 Apr 2013


We are excited to welcome 26 outstanding students from the GNML Online program to Burlington, Vermont today!

During the Youth TechCamp students will combine the information and skills developed during the online program with new information from Youth TechCamp sessions to create individualized Strategic Action Plans (SAPs) for how they will teach others how to use social media for social change upon returning home.

Students will gain valuable leadership, training, public speaking and presentation skills while learning about advanced social media tools and platforms. These skills and tools will help them as they implement their SAPs during the follow-on component of GNML.

54 Students Earn Certificates for the 2013 GNML Online Program! | global new media | 18 Apr 2013

This month 54 students from around the world will receive a Certificate of Completion from PH International and the U.S. Department of State in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the GNML Online program. Students who earned a certificate participated in and successfully completed all 10 GNML Online sessions. Over 6 months, students created social media for social change campaigns that used platforms such as Twitter, Blogger, Facebook and YouTube to advocate for social change in their local communities.

Students from 52 countries participate in PH's online program Global New Media Lab | global new media | 4 Jan 2013

December 2012 Statistics:

  •   571 YES/FLEX/A-SMYLE students from 52 different countries registered and enrolled in GNML Online
  •   351 students have actively participated online during the 2012 October-December reporting period
  •   675 responses have been posted to our classroom for sessions 1-4
  •   54 Youth TechCamp Applications were received by December 23

Oh My Goodness! I have just started to work on my session no: 4, and it is awesome. The more I get to know, the more it makes me curious. It seems like I can be the hero of this world by the help of social media. This has been a favorite session of mine on the Third Planet. Business eh? Who would have thought that me – Miss H.O. (the most confused and indecisive person in the world- actually applying to be in the Guinness world records) came back from AMERICA (yep.. I went to the states did I not say?) so sure that her future lied in the hands of marketing and then owning a multimillionaire business (and now you know why I was smiling in my sleep).

After going to America in the summer I found that my view on starting a business has changed drastically. I must admit before the trip I was intrigued in the business world and thought extremely highly of it. I never saw my self being a business women, as my aim in life was to become a paramedic. However, the two weeks I spent touring businesses has 100% changed my opinion. I now know that just because my passion is medicine, I don't have to limit my self to it. I realised that I can start my own business, after university, around medicine and emergency help.

Global New Media Lab Goes Live 10/29! | global new media | 28 Sep 2012

We welcome students participating in the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' academic exchange programs, YES/A-SMYLE/FLEX, to register and enroll in GNML online from October 17-October 28.

Enrollment invitations will be emailed to students on October 17th with detailed information about GNML and instructions on how to enroll.

Youth LAB Brings Together Armenian, Turkish and American Teens for Civic Action | youth lab usa | 16 Jan 2012

High school students from Armenia, Turkey and across New England have successfully completed a one-year initiative exploring topics that include leadership, social entrepreneurship and cross-cultural dialogue. These 72 young leaders were part of Youth LAB, a program funded by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and implemented by PH International of Waitsfield, Vermont.

Armenian, Turkish and American Teens Gain Leadership Skills During Vermont Summer Camp | youth lab usa | 5 Aug 2011

High school students from Armenia, Turkey and across New England have recently concluded an intensive three-week summer program at Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont. Throughout July, students in the Youth LAB program were engaged in discussions and trainings on leadership, communication and activism. Importantly, students also designed civic action projects to implement in their home communities following the camp.

Youth LAB Selection Process Begins | youth lab usa | 9 Feb 2011

Youth LAB recruitment has officially closed, and program staff in Armenia, Turkey, and the U.S. are now in the process of reviewing an exceptional, civically engaged pool of applications. Students in the U.S. and Turkey should expect to hear from Youth LAB staff by February 16th about their selection status; Armenian youth will be notified by March 5th.
