Success
The Civics Club proposed to school administration a plan to use the land for tillage and farming. The school then forwarded the proposal to the head of the Educational Resource Center of the Tsalenjikha municipality. Based on the school’s cost estimate, the Municipality Governing Board allocated 2,977 Lari to the school account.

Overview
For years the territory of public school # 1 in Sachino village, Tsalenjikha Municipality, had been full of stones and weeds. Litter which filled the neglected area had long endangered the health of both students and faculty.

This problem came to the attention of the Borjgalo (“Georgian Sun”) Civics Club, founded at the School in December 2014 in the framework of USAID funded “Future Generation” program, implemented by PH International. Civics Club members found solutions to problems in their community, and they made cleaning the school’s litter a priority.

With this money, the Civics Club cleaned up the half a hectare land plot by fencing it and completely clearing it of weeds and stones. The students then planted walnut tree seedlings on the plot. This initiative was followed by other students; everyone joined in to till the land and care for the newly-planted trees. The school community expects income from the sale of walnuts and is now deliberating how to distribute the funds for future school priorities. They believe that the new walnut plantation will become one of the school’s new sources of revenue.
