Students Advocate for Healthy Food

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 28 Jan 2016

Civics students of Ruisi public school # 3 implemented a classroom project “Healthy Life Style”. At first they conducted a research among the school students how they liked school canteen and food offered there. Students interviewed 50 students aged between 10-16 years. The most of the interviewed students said that didn’t like sweets, beverage with soda and chips offered in the canteen and that they would like to be offered healthy food at the canteen.

Then the Students sent the results of the research to the school principal and asked to negotiate with the canteen administration to change the menu of the canteen and offer more naturel and healthy food.

Besides, students placed an information board in front of the canteen where they provide information about the importance of the healthy life style and healthy food.

As a result of students’ efforts and with the support from school administration, the canteen has changed the menu with a new one which is now comprised of healthy products and food.

The initiative was supported by USAID-funded Momavlis Taoba Project, which is implemented by PH International.
