Students Enrich School Library

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 28 Jul 2015

Students of school “Mzekabani 2007” in Terjola, enriched school library to promote reading among the youth.
Students started with the action -“One Book for school”- informing the community about the goal of the project. Representatives of the community donated books with their signatures for the school library. 111 books (one book from each person) were collected through this action. In addition, local Municipal Center for Cultural Development donated 100 books. As a result of successful cooperation with a distribution company, the students managed to get a significant discount and purchase more than 120 books from the funds of the mini-grant project. As a result of students’ efforts, a total of 338 books were delivered to the school library.
To promote reading among youth, students prepared a brochure -“Which books should be red during a childhood” - and disseminated among the school children. They organized book reading days for kids at the school. They organized reading and discussion sessions of tales with younger students of their school.
“I am very proud that our project is sustainable. The books will be used by future generations of our school. We will continue actions to enlarge the number of books at our library. As for us, we gained skills, which will help us to do a lot of useful for the school and community activities”-said Levan Oboladze, the member of the project workgroup.
Initiative was supported by mini -grant project in the framework of USAID-funded Momavlis Taoba Program, which is implemented by PH International.
