ELCE Program Holds Open Lesson Weeks in Seven Regions of Georgia

Georgia | English Language through Civic Education | 20 Nov 2013

During the months of October and November 2013 participants and graduates of the English Language through Civic Education (ELCE) program across Georgia hosted Open Lesson Weeks. During this event, the average of fifteen teachers in each of the seven regions (Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Ajara) of ELCE program implementation each taught an ELCE-themed lesson and opened their classrooms to observers. Guests at these lessons included not only ELCE teachers, but also other English teachers, teachers of other disciplines, school principals, parents. Over 3150 students have been taught during Open Lesson Weeks and around 750 observers attended these lessons.

During the open lessons, ELCE graduate teachers presented knowledge, skills, and materials acquired through the ELCE course and ELCE Summer Institute, demonstrated best practices and shared lesson plans and teaching materials with other teachers thus contributing to their professional development and improved English language teaching and learning in schools across Georgia.

All the lesson plans and supplemental materials developed and used by the ELCE alumni teachers throughout the Open Lesson Week will be collected, published, and distributed to all the ELCE alumni schools and ERCs throughout the country. The ELCE Open Lesson Weeks Booklet will also be uploaded to the ELCE Blog (www.elceonline.com) and ELCE Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/elce).
