Georgia | English Language through Civic Education | 21 Nov 2012

On November 21, the 5th grade class of Kutaisi Public School #9 who were Inspired by the “Volunteerism” topic from one of the ELCE Program modules, and with the support of their English Language Teacher Tamuna Popkhadze in the lead, collected 10 large bags of clothing to donate to the Tbilisi Youth House Foundation to be later distributed to needy families in the Kutaisi area.

“My students loved the lesson on volunteerism and were especially thrilled to have a chance to experience themselves in the role of volunteers”, shared Tamuna Popkhadze. “ELCE curriculum inspired so many bright and creative lesson ideas. In the beginning I was skeptical about the ability of younger learners to grasp the civic education topics, but I was wrong! Students have been very receptive and civics content helped me to keep them interested and intrigued. I will definitely continue using ELCE materials in my class after the project ends”, she assured.
