“Theater for Everyone”

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 29 Apr 2014

“Theater for Everyone” was the slogan of the advocacy campaign conducted by Gori school-based civics club students to support children with disabilities. As part of the campaign, students interviewed more than 100 people and organized a march in the central street of Gori to attract public attention to the problem. Students met with the representatives of local government and with officials of Gori Drama Theater to discuss the need for accessible environment for children with disabilities. As the result, administration of the Gori Theater replied to students’ initiative: “Administration of Gori Drama Theatre supports students’ initiative; as building of the theater is a cultural - historical monument, construction of a fixed ramp in front of the theater is impossible, but administration of the theater will provide mobile iron ramps for persons with disabilities during the performances”. Campaign was carried out in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program, which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
