Green Roadway in Guria

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 24 Feb 2014

Civics club students in Guria decided to fight environmental pollution in local communities. The project was initiated at youth forum of ACETT program. A monitoring group of environment, comprised of students and civics teacher was formed. Students met with the representatives of the local municipality to discuss the project idea – monitoring group will take photos of the places which are in need of cleaning and will inform appropriate bodies to take measures. Local authorities welcomed the idea, pledged their support and a memorandum of cooperation was signed by the members of the monitoring group and local municipality, which allocated a staff member for communications on this project. “Monitoring group has started its activities. We have already visited some villages, took photos and will advocate for more efforts to resolve environmental pollution problem. It is very interesting for us to see how the environment will change after our efforts” says Salome Berishvili, a civics club leader student. Initiative was carried out in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
