Civic club members celebrating International Day of Peace

School based civic club members of Adjara and Shida Kartli region organized various activities dedicated to the International Day of Peace. Activities started with the essay competition on peace and democracy issues, where 22 students took part in Adjara region. The authors of three best essays were awarded with the certificates and prizes. Essay competition was followed by another event, during which civics club students of Khelvachauri public school #1 arranged a meeting among students and invited guest, including representatives of Public Defender’s office and Institute of Democracy in Batumi. Discussion topic was peace and importance of peace building initiatives. In the end of the meeting, the film "How mankind loses the peace" was shown followed by discussion. Mountainous villages of Adjara were very active contributors of celebrating Peace Day. Civics students from villages Khulo, Vashlovani and Didadjara organized information campaign for their community, which included open air paining competition on the peace topic. Celebration of the International Peace Day in Adjara was concluded with the peace walk “Let’s Fight for Peace Together” where information materials among the population were distributed. More than 40 students took part in this action. In parallel to the events organized in Adjara regions, school based civics club students of city Gori from Shida kartli region implemented different activities dedicated to the International Day of Peace. Events started with the peace chain in the center of Gori followed by the educational-informational campaign in the central park of the city. Students prepared and made presentations about laureates of the Nobel Peace Prizes and loudly red the announcement of United Nations Secretary General dedicated to International Day of Peace. In the end of the day participants had an opportunity to watch documentary film by Toma Chagelishvili about the facts of armed conflict in 2008. All events in Gori was supported by Gori Municipality, NGO community and local media. Events took place in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International and its partners in Georgia.
