Civics Clubs Support Children with Leukemia in Tbilisi

Tbilisi schools civics clubs students organized charity action “Active Citizenship - let's help each other” to support 25 children with leukemia. Students used social media to share information about the action and mobilized parents, teachers and school administration to raise funds. During the preparation period, which lasted for 3 months, students involved different organizations, including Association “Peace and Education”, Ministry of Education and Culture of Abkhazia, Volunteer Students’ Association to support the action. Ministry of Internal Affairs collected clothes, footwear, books and school items, while International Relief and Development donated summer shoes for kids. Action was held for three months. 52 people donated blood and more than 250 people participated in different activities to support an action. On January 28, 2013 civics club students visited young patients in the clinic and organized concert with the participation of children’ folk group of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Abkhazia, they have also brought presents and spent one beautiful day with young patients. Initiative was carried out with support of Tbilisi Youth House, in the framework of Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
