Trainings of Students on Healthy Lifestyle

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 27 Nov 2012

On November 19, 2012 civics club students from Tbilisi public schools attended training on Healthy Lifestyle at Tbilisi Youth House, in the framework of Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program implemented by PH International and funded by USAID. Training was provided by the representatives of NGO “Georgian Maternal and Child Care Union”. Twenty-eight participant students of the training got detailed information about the harm tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse can bring to a person. Students watched a video titled “Stigma” and took part in the discussion, which was held after the screening of the video. Students also received informational materials about the training topics. Training was organized in the framework of the USAID-funded Georgia HIV Prevention Project, which is implemented by RTI International. “Today we attended very interesting training about an importance of healthy life style. We discussed problems, which are caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs, also spoke about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. I think that such trainings are also very needed for younger students and adults, as there is a clear lack of information in the society about such problems and the ways for their prevention” – mentioned Sergo Gvaramia, a student from Tbilisi school #140 civics club. Sergo also said that he is willing to share this information with those peers, who did not have an opportunity to take part in the training. Trainings for the promotion of healthy lifestyle were already conducted for 275 students in different regions of Georgia. A total of 500 students from school-based civics clubs nationwide will be trained at the end of the process.
