Civics Students in Kvemo Kartli Discuss Volunteerism

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 25 Oct 2012

School civics club students from the Kvemo Kartli region had a meeting with local resident Nana Nersezashvili, who was featured in a well-known TV program “Heroes of Imedi” for her altruism and contribution to youth. Nana is a person who volunteers her knowledge and experience for the benefit of the people around her and works to improve the lives of young people. “Don’t wait for others when you have ideas; take action to fulfill your dreams”- Nana told the students. She shared with them her story on how she started as a volunteer trying to help people and later on established the organization “Leli” in her village of Leliani in the Kakheti region to support young people. She looked for and found partners and resources to support this work. Nowadays this organization helps young people to gain knowledge, identify professional interests and spend their free time meaningfully. “Leli” is funded through social entrepreneurship. Students had a chance to watch the video about the guest and ask her questions about her story and volunteerism. This meeting impressed the students, who mentioned that they felt a desire to bring benefit to others with their work and have outlined that they have realized it is not so difficult to be an active citizen. The meeting was held in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program, which is implemented by PH International.
