Georgia Civics Clubs Mark International Day for Eradication of Poverty

On October 17th, school civics club students across Georgia marked the International Day for Eradication of Poverty with informational campaigns, charity events and meetings. Students in Akhaltsikhe disseminated informational materials in public places and organized a meeting where videos made by students were shown. The idea was to increase public activities to support people in need. Representatives of governmental, non-governmental organizations and media attended the meeting. Civics club students of Ninotsminda public school #2 arranged a meeting with representatives of the local social service agency to discuss government programs for the eradication the poverty. They also discussed the activities which they can conduct to support the people in their communities. Students in Bakuriani, in the village Ude and Skhvilisi, organized charity events to support their peers from economically disadvantaged and socially vulnerable families and gave them stationery, food and non-food items. Students of Surami public school #3 organized sale of homemade cakes to support IDP children. Civics club students of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region elaborated, printed and disseminated information materials about eradication of poverty. Events were carried out in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program, which is implemented by PH International and funded by USAID.
