Green School Civics Club Advances Youth Volunteerism

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 10 Apr 2012

On March 24, 2012, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Green School Civics Club in Tbilisi and the Union of Museums in Kaspi in an effort to work together to advance ecotourism and foster youth volunteerism. The Memorandum was followed by a project undertaken by the civics club called Young Sangviniks, which mobilized local youth to clean up a park surrounding the 18th century Georgian National Architectural Monument and Palace Museum in Lamiskana. The initiative helped raise public awareness about ecotourism and volunteerism, with event participants actively sharing their efforts through social media and digital outreach to peers, community groups and classmates. An art teacher from the Green School also organized open air paintings by Lamiskana students, which were later showcased at area schools to spur conversations and actions to help preserve historical landmarks. At the close of the event, students from Green School and Lamiskana enthusiastically agreed to continue their participation in joint civics activities, including conferences, meetings organized by the museum, and other important community service.
