Students receive awards for their work on human and child rights.

On December 14, 2011 Telavi (# 1 public school in Kakheti region was visited by honorable guests Mrs. Holly Holzer Bass, spouse of USA Ambassador in Georgia, and Mrs. Susan Cowley, USAID Democracy and Governance Office Director, who presented awards to the winners of the students’ competition on human and child rights for the best essay, drawing and video. The competition was conducted in the framework of USAID funded, PH International Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT). Partner public schools civics club members of Kakheti region were the participants of the competition. Mrs. Marina Ushveridze, ACETT Program Director, opened the event and welcomed the guests. The event was attended by school civics club member students, civics teachers, school administration officials, local educational resource center, government and media representatives as well as members of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association from Kakheti region. Winners of the competition presented the best student’s work to the audience. Also a presentation of the activities and achievements of Telavi and Kvareli schools civics clubs was held at the event. Mrs. Holly Holzer Bass presented awards to the winners of the student competition and in her speech congratulated the winners and mentioned that good citizenship is learned through constructive participation in civic life and it is the key component for the building of the democratic society. Mr. Nugzar Khutsaidze Head of Telavi Council, participant of the event, also congratulated the winners and appreciated USAID support to Georgia. At the end of the event students had opportunity to ask questions to Ms. Susan Cowley and Mrs. Holly Holzer Bass about good citizenship and student involvement in civic life in the USA. The students took photos with guests for the memory of this event. Regional Media representatives held interviews and covered the event.
