Civics Event Brings Together Youth from across Samtskhe-Javakheti Region

On January 26, 2011, Akhaltsikhe Public School #1 hosted a ceremony for civic education students who participated in an arts and essay contest through the USAID-funded Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program, implemented by PH International. More than 320 students from 32 schools in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, many from ethnic minorities, participated in the competition and shared works during the event that addressed how students define active citizenship and civic society. The event participants were welcomed by ACETT director Ms. Marina Ushveridze and grants manager Ms. Tamuna Pruidze. Event was attended by students, teachers, school directors, USAID representatives and local Government officials. Student contest was organized in partnership with Akhaltsikhe Youth Center.
