Promoting English Language Learning and Youth Development in Armenia (PELL-YD) (2023-2025)
The Promoting English Language Learning and Youth Development in Armenia program (PELL-YD) expands the community of English language learners among Armenian youth and young professionals in four regions. It also offers professional development opportunities to English language teachers to equip them with knowledge and skills that deepen the country’s capacity for English language learning.
The goal of PELL-YD is to equip English teachers, young adults, and youth from four regions of Armenia (Tavush, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik) with skills to help them mature into successful professionals and engaged, competent, and responsible citizens of Armenia and the world.
The project will accomplish the following objectives:
- 176 Armenian students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds aged 13-16 from 8 communities of the Tavush, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik regions will gain English language instruction and personal development skills through enrollment in the English Access Microscholarship program.
176 Armenian students from the selected regions aged 13-16 will learn about civic engagement by contributing to the Access Community Action Projects.
16 Access students aged 13-16 from 8 communities of the Tavush, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik regions will participate in a 5-day exchange to Georgia to interact with their Access peers, be exposed to the best social, cultural, and educational innovations practiced in leading Georgian schools.
About 160 school principals, educators, and members of Student Councils, in addition to the 170 Access students enrolled in 8 Access partner schools, will be exposed to the social, cultural, and educational innovations practiced in leading Georgian schools via the local presentations of the Georgia exchange alumni. - 95 in-service English teachers from the selected regions will gain skills in effective instruction methodology and student-centered learning techniques.
- 100 youth and young adults aged 19-35 from Tavush, including those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, will learn English and develop soft skills.
- 125 Tavush youth and young adults aged 19-35, including those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, obtain knowledge and develop skills in resume writing and job interviews, grant writing, project management, social media marketing, and social research methods.
- Three Tavush-based motivational public meetings focused on youth development topics for about 120 young people aged 19-35 from Tavush.
- A rapid training workshop built on the World Café methodology to provide Tavush young people with guidance and ideas on improving their skills for the workplace – for about 40 young people aged 19-35 from Tavush.
- An anti-bullying video campaign created by young people in Tavush with three winning videos and a collaborative short film voicing the needs of youth in Tavush.
- About 100 people attend the three sub-regional screenings of the three winning videos of the anti-bullying campaign, the short film about Tavush youth, and the follow-up discussions proposing ways to support local youth development.
