As a result of the civics club students’ initiative, a tower in their village was granted a status of cultural heritage
Students of USAID funded “Momavlis Taoba” program partner school of Sasireti village in Kaspi Municipality had a meeting with the representatives of the Public Defender's Office in Shida Kartli. The students talked about a tower in the village - the historical monument of XVI-XVIII centuries, that needed rehabilitation. Representatives of the Public Defender's Office visited the historical monument together with the students and requested the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia to support students’ initiative.
The professional development training "Planning of Interactive Lesson" was held for civics teachers from different regions of Georgia in the framework of civic education "Momavlis Taoba" program. The training will help teachers develop interactive teaching methods and approaches; and create effective lesson plans. The training was organized by the Civic Education Teachers Forum.
9th-grade students of the village Ikalto public school initiated to renovate the school library and promote reading and literacy among the students of different ages. Students conducted a survey to find out what kind of literature is interesting for their peers, then they collected scraps and changed them into new books to enrich the school library.
10th-grade students of village Koreti Public school in Sachkhere municipality organized a campaign in the community to collect books and toys for the local kindergarten to support pre-school education of kids. Students visited the kindergarten and read books to their little villagers every day.
Grade nine students of the village Tamarisi public school #1 in Marneuli municipality initiated to raise public awareness of gender equality. The students conducted reading classes, an essay contest, an exhibition of paintings on gender equality. The best works of the students were compiled to make a book of it.
Civics students of the village Darakov public school in Tsalka Municipality decided to improve the road safety in their community. The problem is that the school is in the immediate vicinity of the highway, the speed limit sign is in front of the school gate, while according to the traffic rules it should be 50 meters away from the gate. That is why the safety of students of the school is not insured.
In order to resolve this problem students met Mayor of Tsalka City Hall, Chairman of the City council and the Patrol Police officer. The officials appreciated the students’ initiative and assured them that the problem will be resolved shortly.
A School based civics club of Tbilisi public school #67 collaborated with various organizations to promote environmental protection. With the support of the company "Palitra L", “green boxes” were placed in the school to collect scraps. Later, the collected scraps were turned into new books to enrich the school library.
The 9th grade students of Tbilisi public school #214 organized sports competitions in basketball and football to support integration of children with special needs into the society. Students with special needs of their school also participated in the competitions.
A school-based civics club of Tbilisi public school #213 successfully cooperated with the Transport Department of Tbilisi City Hall to improve road safety in the school community.
