Photo contest “My World” was organized by Tbilisi school-based civics club students of Momavlis Taoba Project. Contest was dedicated to protection of environment in which students from 20 schools participated. Six best photos were selected by jury and through social networks.

Civics Teachers’ National Fair-Conference | 18 May 2015


On May 16, 2015 USAID Caucasus Mission Director Mr. Stephen M. Haykin  joined Ms. Tamar Sanikidze, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and Ms. Marina Ushveridze, Director of the Civic Education Program “Momavlis Taoba” to open the fourth Civics Teachers’ National Fair-Conference in Tbilisi at the Tbilisi Expo Georgia event hall.

Jinvali students for better environment | 11 May 2015


Civics club students of Jinvali public school decided to improve environment in their village. They organized a presentation of the film and discussion on ecology. Students have also mobilized their peers and cleaned the school yard and the territory around historical monument - Jvari. As a result of successful cooperation with the local administration, students received tree seedlings for their greening action. 28 trees were planted in the school yard. Students will take care of the newly-planted trees.

Civics Supplemental Textbooks Received by 480 Schools Nationwide | 30 Apr 2015


In April students and teachers of MT project’s 480 partner schools nationwide received civics supplemental textbooks “How Can I Become an Active Citizen” and “Cooperation for Social Benefit”. Textbooks introduce the concept a democratic society, underline advantage of active citizenship and the role of the civil society, emphasize the issues associated with discrimination and inequality and stress out the concept of volunteerism and its benefits for the society. Each textbook introduces project-based learning, guiding students to apply the gained knowledge in their everyday lives by tackling critical issues for their communities.

On April 17, young citizens, winners of MT’s blog contest from different regions of Georgia were awarded for their blogs in thematic nominations, such as Young Volunteer, Young Ombudsman, Environmental Defender, Citizen Journalist, Healthy Lifestyle Advocate and Young Educator.

Advocacy Campaign for the Road Safety | 22 Apr 2015


Students of “Momavlis Skola” in Batumi carried out advocacy campaign for the road safety. There was no appropriate road sign and speed bump in front of the school, which is situated on a street with heavy traffic. This created a danger for pedestrians who tried to cross the street.
