ACETT Civics Camp 2012 Opened in Bazaleti

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 5 Jun 2012

On June 2012 an opening ceremony of the civics camp 2012 “I Am an Active Citizen” took place in Bazaleti in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International. Camp brings together 90 leader students and civics teachers from different parts of Georgia.

The camp was opened by Marina Ushveridze, Director of ACETT program. In a camp, students meet with different guests to talk about the topics of their interest. They have already met with Katherine Cadwell, a civics teacher from Harwood High School in Vermont, US, who spoke with students about an importance of civic education.

Civics camp participants also met with Mzia Tabatadze, HIV/AIDS advocacy Expert from RTI International. Ms. Tabatadze showed a film about stigma, which was produced by USAID-funded Georgia HIV Prevention Project. Students very actively engaged in a dialogue about health related topics and demonstrated an initiative to show the film to the peers in their respective regions.
