Civics Students Supporting Rare Plant Boxwood

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 27 Jul 2016

Students from the public school of the village Gachedili decided to save the unique evergreen shrub Buxus Colchica, a Georgian variety of Boxwood, a rare plant, which is included into the "Red Book" of Georgia. Boxwood suffers from pandemic plant decease especially in Samegrelo and Adjara regions.

Students drafted a letter to local authorities requesting to pesticide Boxwood planted at their school territory. Local authorities positively responded the students’ initiative and shortly after the request organized pesticide of Boxwood. Students also prepared fliers encouraging local community to care and save unique evergreen shrub.
