USAID Democracy and Governance Office Deputy Director Meets with Civic Club Students

On October 8, 2013 Mr. David Stonehill, USAID Democracy and Governance Office Deputy Director visited Tbilisi public school # 42 to meet with the school civics club members. Visit started in the civic club room, where hosts introduced the club environment and exhibited all the key achievements that club has achieved so far. After the civic club room orientation, Mr. Stonehill attended the presentation of the civic club activities in the conference room of the school. Meeting started with the opening remarks followed by the speech of Mrs. Maka Bibileishvili, Civics Teacher who welcomed guests and spoke about the role of ACETT program that contributes the overall development of the school civic education in the country. She listed all the key activities from which she benefited as a teacher, including her participation in the civic education accredited teacher training, having a possibility to use four supplementary civics textbooks in her class created as part of the ACETT program, as well as her participation in master classes, conducted by US experts and incentives that program offers for teachers. During the meeting, former and recent civics club members presented all the key activities of the club and spoke about the initiatives, achievements and experience gained out from being an active member of the club. In the end of the meeting Mr. Stonehill thanked students for the interesting presentations, answered student’s questions and shared his volunteer experience. He also underlined the importance of the civic education and involvement of the students in the democratic processes as future leaders of the country.
