Students Discuss the Role and Rights of Women in Shida Kartli

On March 12, 2013 ACETT students have gathered in Gori to meet with local female professionals and take part in a discussion on gender issues. Meeting was dedicated to Women’s International Day. Students and guests covered the rights of the women in historic and contemporary contexts, spoke about gender equality and about the role of women in the development of society. Discussion of the historic context was followed by the discussion of women’s rights and their social status in current realities. Invited guests included representatives from the local Government, media, businesses and NGO sector. Prior to the event, civics club students participated in a competition on gender issues. Fifteen best essays by students, reflecting the lives of prominent women from history were selected and presented at the event. “Such events are very important, as they promote development of civil society, its involvement in local decision-making processes. I am delighted to see so many active teenagers, they are future leaders” – said Nino Tsetsvadze, Deputy Head of Gori Municipality. Event took place at Gori Civic Engagement Center. Meeting was held in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
