ZANG Staff in Kyrgyz Experts' Traning on Monitoring Child Rights in Armenia's Special Schools

Armenia | ZANG Armenian Legal Socialization Project | 18 Jan 2012

Throughout Nov. 01-04 2011, ZANG Program staff Hripsime Amirkhanyan, who is also an active member of the RA Public Monitoring Group over Special Schools, formed by the RA Ministry of Education and Science, participated in a unique training conducted by the Youth Human Rights Group representatives operating in Kyrgyzstan.

The first two days the trainers shared their methodology and tools of monitoring, after which the Armenian participants and the trainers conducted a joint monitoring visit to one of Yerevan special schools. This helped them to practice and experience the newly obtained information and knowledge in the field, via real-life situations. A group of 8 people out of 25 participants was selected to visit the Yerevan Special School #2 for the Children with Mental Deficiency. One of the selected monitors for this assignment was Hripsime who was responsible for monitoring based only on the Observation Method. During the monitoring visit the group used the methodology and materials developed and provided by the Youth Human Rights Group representatives. The last day each of the 8 persons who took part in the abovementioned monitoring visit presented his or her report to the whole group. The group was highly appreciative of the detailed report that Hripsime presented on the application of the method assigned to her.
