Municipal Projects are Initiated and Planned by Police Officers

Georgia | Community Policing Initiative in Minority Regions of Georgia | 10 May 2022

On May 3-5 CPI Project participant police officers were trained in using community policing approaches in practice and based on them plan municipal projects. Municipal projects aim to create a precedent and platform of implementing joint initiatives between police and local municipalities related to youth problems.  Policing models, such as SARA and PAT, for analyzing and reacting on problems were introduced to police officers. During the 3 days, police officers worked in three groups according to municipalities Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda. They have identified local problems related to youth security, chose one problem and developed an action plan to address it. In all three municipalities initiatives related to road safety were developed, as it turned out to be very problematic issue. In identified locations there is high mobility of youth and frequent road accidents. Police officers’ initiative is to improve road infrastructure and increase youth and drivers’ awareness about road safety. Next steps are to communicate these initiatives with local municipalities and agree on partnership.
