Facebook live with Adam Schmidt, Director of USAID Georgia’s Democracy, Governance and Social Development Office was held with students, teachers and parents via MT’s Facebook page.

During one hour of Facebook live, the speaker talked about the life of the American family in Georgia during COVID-19 pandemic. He also covered civic activism and volunteering in the US, and answered the questions of viewers.

How strong is democracy and civil society in Georgia? What programs does USAID implement worldwide to increase the quality of democracy? Why does the US Government cooperate with Georgia? How do young people become politicians in the USA? How pandemic has changed your everyday life? How do you manage challenges during the lockdown time?  What did you do in your leisure time? Was “Stay Home” stressful for you and your family members? Why is volunteering so highly valued in the USA? How popular is civic education in America, and how are young people involved in civic activities? - These among others were the questions that Adam Schmidt discussed with the students during an online meeting.

Elder son of Adam Schmidt Phin also joined the live. Phin is a high school student; he welcomed Georgian students and shared with them his experience of distance learning, his activities during the lockdown period and his impression of Georgia.

Participants of the meeting - students, civics teachers and parents from all regions of Georgia had the opportunity to ask questions to Adam Schmidt, via Facebook. By the time the online conference ended, the number of online viewers had reached 3,100 and a total of 278 questions had been asked.

 

Such events are very helpful and contribute to spreading information about important topics, such as volunteering and involvement of youth in civic activities in an interesting way.
