SRO Capacity Building

Armenia | Armenia Legal Education and Active Participation | 25 May 2018

The SROs were trained in application of legal socialization and Domestic Violence (DV) curricula developed by the selected experts within the LEAP project. “Legal Mosaic”, a collection of lesson plans developed back in 2005 within the ZANG Legal Socialization program, was revised and enriched by the experts with extended content which included minority and gender issues, trafficking, juvenile justice, Internet Safety and Cybercrime, Youth subcultures and Equality. In addition, the RA laws also were updated to reflect legal changes initiated in the country since 2005.

“Domestic Violence” Curriculum developed by the experts covered 6 main topics related to the DV, the main forms of DV prevention and protection from the DV, perceptions of the DV in the society, impact of the DV, etc.

The training was facilitated by the PH International staff and the two experts. The content and basic instructions on the usage of the two manuals were presented to the participants including methods and some tips for the SROs to follow during the classes. The experts conducted a couple of model lessons from the two manuals to demonstrate the main aspects and methods to be focused when conducting the lessons. Theoretical knowledge was reinforced by practical exercises conducted at the training sessions.

The presentations, discussions and teaching style of the experts were highly evaluated by the participants, the PH staff and the funding organization. The participants were equipped with comprehensive knowledge especially on the new topics incorporated in the “Legal Mosaic” such as trafficking and cybercrimes, and learned about the main types of domestic violence, its impact and ways of avoiding/preventing DV in everyday life.
