Community Connections in Russia is administered by PH International and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It promotes public diplomacy, economic growth and the development of civil society in Russia and Eurasia through an exchange of experiences, culture and values among program participants, American families, host businesses and local communities.
It is a practical internship program and combines seminars, workshops, site visits, and meetings with American professionals with hands-on practical internships. Participants typically stay from three to five weeks in the United States and live with American host families.
The Community Connections program:
- Provides participants with professional training and exposure to
the day-to-day functioning of a free market system
- Encourages public-private partnerships in Russia by including
private sector and government participants on US visits
- Creates links between US and Russian regions and communities

16.08.2011 | Novosibirsk museum professionals collaborate with American counterparts to establish the interactive museum space
According to Svetlana Kolyada participation in the Community Connections NGO Empowerment program was very important step in her life. Svetlana is a Program Director of the School for Social Entrepreneurship within the "SMART Concept" NGO in Novosibirsk. Upon return from the exchange Svetlana talked a lot about the role of NGO in civic engagement and facilitation of public participation. One of the ideas that captivated Svetlana in the USA was creation of the interactive museum or space for kids and grown-ups such as the Magic House or City Museum in St. Louis, MO, where visitors could not only get in touch with historical heritage, but also become involved in social and cultural events organized in the museum.

 In March – April 2011 a group of professionals who are working on NGO governance and development from Novosibirsk region travelled to the USA to participate in the Community Connections NGO Empowerment program. In the U.S. the group was hosted by the World Affairs Council of St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri.

 In winter of 2011, a group of 10 participants from the North Caucasus region visited the USA for the CC exchange program on the Role of Small and Medium Enterprises in Community Development. The program was carried out in Fremont, the Northwest Ohio by WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc. - in cooperation with the Great Lakes Consortium for International Training and Development.
