Country: Russia Dates: 01.02.2003 - 31.01.2004 Web Site: http://jdepi.projectharmony.ru/ This project is the expansion of the Community Policing Training Initiative (CPTI) that was facilitated by Project Harmony Inc. in Karelia, Velikiy Novgorod, Volgograd, Irkutsk, and Ukraine in 2000-2002. Thу program's goal is to promote healthy lifestyle among children and youth in order to reduce drug demand by conducting interactive training programs.
Phases of the program
- April 2003, St. Petersburg - “Trainer’s School” - At the outset of this new phase of JDEP, Project Harmony organized an intensive training seminar for experienced trainers in our three current program communities. This training seminar, led by the authors of the DOM curriculum run in a train-the-trainers format and prepared these participants to serve as trainers for training events to be conducted in their home communities and in new JDEP venues.
- April 2003, Volgograd, Petrozavodsk, and Velikiy Novgorod - Project Harmony facilitated a Regional Capacity Training in each of the three current JDEP communities. Twenty local participants and five participants from the region’s new partner community took part in the four-day training workshops. Led by local trainers, these workshops consisted of hands-on workshops on how to effectively teach the in-school drug-prevention curriculum through observation, role-plays and adventure-based activities.
- September 2003, Pskov, Kaliningrad, and Murmansk - New JDEP communities worked together with Project Harmony to organize a five-day Local Capacity Training in their home community in order to introduce the JDEP program and the DOM curriculum. Two trainers from their partner community facilitated the workshop. The five-day LCTs were highly interactive, with much room for debate and discussion about teaching techniques, classroom management, program evaluation, and learning styles. At the conclusion of the workshop, Project Harmony led a strategic planning session that outlined future activities for implementing the DOM curriculum and provided for additional JDEP-related training for professionals. Communities identified possible schools where the DOM curriculum was piloted.
- December 2003, Moscow. - National Drug Prevention Awareness Conference. Project Harmony organized and facilitated a National Drug Prevention Awareness Conference in Moscow in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Education. Selected delegations of five people from each of the now seven-city JDEP network were invited to attend, along with Russian ministry officials, US Embassy and Consular officials, and invited guests in relevant professional fields from regions across Russia. The three-day event allowed participants to present JDEP accomplishments and discuss lessons learned in implementing the DOM curriculum.
