Happy with the new job!

Russia | Mobile Literacy | 1 Oct 2015

Sixty-two year old Galina Shmeleva received a smartphone as a present from her granddaughter, but was not at all happy with this gift. She thought that it was next to impossible for a person of her age to learn how to use this modern gadget. In the Seniors Council of Tambov, Galina found out about a free mobile literacy course and enrolled. The training was interesting and exciting. Galina realized that her smartphone has almost unlimited potential and during the training she learned about various useful smartphone features and apps. She set up mobile internet, downloaded e-books, music, an app to edit photos and to plan routes to avoiding traffic jams.

Once on her way home, Galina saw a job advertisement that a new real estate agency was looking for operating personnel. Galina went to the agency hoping to get a job of a cleaner. The agency director liked Galina’s communication competence and was impressed by her smartphone and computer knowledge and invited her to try a job of an advertising specialist. Now Galina works with, Russia's biggest classifieds ads site. Using special Avito for Android app, she maintains the database of the agency’s online announcements, application statistics and thinks up slogans to attract new clients. Galina is happy with her new job. She enjoys communicating with people and learning new things. The more applications she registers and processes the higher her income level is. Now Galina is grateful to her granddaughter for the smartphone and to the Mobile Literacy project for such a useful and timely training course.
