Over Twenty Syrian- Armenian women participated in the training organized in Yerevan by the two trainers who had recently completed training in “Non-Violent Parenting and Conflict Resolution” within the AM CALLS project. This initiative was the basis for an effective collaboration between “Save the Children” working with Syrian Armenians and PH International staff.

Overview
Following the Training of Trainers (ToT) on “Non-Violent Parenting and Conflict Resolution” in April, 2015 the Fourteen trained professionals conducted a two day regional training to community-based educators, social workers, psychologists and juvenile police officers. Relying on the applied learning component of the training, the latters worked with parents from their communities transferring the knowledge gained to the parents from their schools and organizations they represent.

The topic “Age Peculiarities and Adaption Practices Specific to Each Age Group” identified by the trainer turned out to be very relevant for the Syrian- Armenian women. These women had recently moved from Syria to Armenia due to the Syrian war and currently face adaptation problems in Armenia. The training was conducted for social clubs developed within the project on “Capacity Building and Improvement of Living Standards for Refugees” implemented by “Save the Children.” At the end of the training the women received a copy of a Parenting Manual developed within the AM CALLS project. The women, as well as representatives from “Save the Children,” were excited to have the opportunity and asked for further collaboration to be established between the two organizations. Moreover, women from the social clubs recommended to continue the series of trainings and suggested more topics which they considered priority for them. Topics such as: sex education of children, internet safety, promoting adaptation of children, to name a few.

Considering this, the AM CALLS trainers promised to work on the topics suggested to them and continue the collaboration initiated in Year 2 of the project. Some of the trainers will be involved in the design of a Resource Kit that is to be developed for the Parents Club which will be established within the AM CALLS Community Grants component. They will consider the suggested topics, while developing the Resource Kit and with the upcoming Year 3 of the project will meet with the “Save the Children” staff to plan the future expansion of the successful collaboration established within the AM CALLS project.
