Dagestan State Institute of a National Economy of the Government of Republic Dagestan announces that 28 students have completed the course, Starting a Business, at the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute in Makhachkala, which they took from May 15 to June 2. Their final assignment was to write business plans, which they can turn into concrete small-sized companies.

Facilitators of the local Cisco Entrepreneur Institute taught the course. Representatives of such companies and firms as Rosgosstrah, Design Studio MC-Soft, Republican Youth Business Incubator “Dagestan”, Business Incubator “Talgi”, IT-Color Company, and the Federal Service Administration taught master classes, gave advice, and answered students’ questions. Teachers taught such subjects as Law, Accounting, Marketing, and Information Technology.

The students took all their classes on-line using an interactive educational system called WebEx, which was developed by Cisco Systems and implemented in Russia by PH International.

Online education is a flexible option and lets students join the classes from their personal computer or any other computer using their account on Ciscoinstitute.net.

The course used a high level of interactivity, which included presentations, software applications, and continual teacher/student feedback. It let the students completely plunge into learning. The involvement of specialists and modern e-learning technologies helped the students acquire subject-oriented knowledge and skills and apply them practically in their business plans.

During the learning period students met some challenges with hardware and connection to the virtual learning environment via internet. Despite the fact that these challenges influenced the quality of the classes they were solved and turned into a good learning experience that is going to help in future courses, which will begin again in September 2011.
