Students Donate Adapted Books to Children with Special Needs

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 19 Feb 2016

Civics club students of Kutaisi public school #14 held carried out a campaign to support beneficiaries of a day care center for children with special needs. Slogan of the campaign was “Donate one Adapted Book to Children’s Day Care Center”.

The friendship between civics club members and children of the center started after the students’ first visit, when they came to the center to read tales to the beneficiaries. Students staged a puppet play with participation of the center’s beneficiaries. The contest for scenario was announced at  school and premiere was held at the day care center.

Later on, students decided to study the needs of day care beneficiaries and found out that beneficiaries did not have adapted books. To help with this, students made a video announcement and shared it through Facebook. Students from other schools in Kutaisi also joined the campaign. As a result of students’ efforts, 35 adapted books were collected and delivered to the center.

The initiative was supported by USAID-funded Momavlis Taoba Project, which is implemented by PH International.
