In 2015, PH International started to pilot a new after school youth component “Kids, Cops and Safety” as part of its Georgia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization program (GE CALLS). Students from the grades 4, 5 and 6 have an opportunity to learn about the road safety, general safety rules, healthy lifestyle, children’s right and police officers duties and responsibilities directly from the police. This process also cultivates positive relationship and trust building between police and students and establishing positive and innovative police-community relations.
On February 10th, Tbilisi public school #84 was visited by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, James A. Walsh and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs for Georgia Archil Talakvadze. Guests had an opportunity to attended the after school class on road safety led by Police Officer along with the School Resource Officer.
Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs participated in the interactive process. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers directly from guests in friendly and playful environment. In the end of the class, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia invited the students to explore the police car.
Funded by the Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and implemented by PH International in Georgia, GE CALLS encourage schools and community groups to plan for and adopt new programs that reduce delinquency. Program supports prevention and reduction recurrence of juvenile delinquency and strengthening a fundamental shift within the police, courts, and communities toward restorative justice elements in the Republic of Georgia.
