Georgia | Georgia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization | 24 Feb 2015

Civic Responsibility Board – a new project funded in the framework of GE CALLS Community Initiatives grants program. Project aims at preventing juvenile crime via raising children’s legal and civic awareness, using the method of problem-based learning, or simulation games. Last week the project staff held interviews following the presentations at schools; 20 students from GE CALLS partner schools were selected to participate in the project. The mentioned board is a discussion platform for 35 students of Kutaisi Public Schools and University students, where they discuss 3 cases and are divided into 4 groups – Active Citizens (they assume that the situations given in the case is a problem of civic society), Passive Citizens (they assume that the situation given in the case is problem of government), Responsible Citizens (demonstrating ways and responsibilities of both citizens and the government) and Experts (aggregate arguments provided by all three parties and develop joint approach). Beneficiaries will develop recommendations for citizens and government on preventing the crimes described in cases. Beneficiaries will be supported by invited experts, qualified professionals (psychologist, judge, police officer, lawyer etc.) who will assist them at different phases of work. The arguments and positions of four groups will be published and discussed on Facebook page, where the representatives of local NGO sector will also be present. The project is implemented by Research-Intellectual Club Dialogue for Generations (RICDOG), supported by PH International Georgia’s GE CALLS program, funded by The US Department of State’s International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL).
