Football and Community policing in the districts of Ge Calls participant schools

Georgia | Georgia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization | 3 Dec 2014

With the initiative of the police officer, inspector-investigator Joseph Kurtskhalia who has been involved in GE Calls program for more than five years a football competition was organized in the school #64. The school enrolled in the Ge-calls program (formerly - Georgian Legal Socialization Program) in 2012 ever since, they continue the legal culture lessons and after-school programs with participation of local police officer.

As part of community policing, carefully planned football games with the leadership of the police officers proved to be extremely positive byproduct of the program, in which youth participate, learn skills, communicate with police officer in casual environment and have sense of belonging. That,  as a result,  reduces delinquent actions at schools and in the neighboring community.

Police officer Joseph  Kurtskhalia hopes to reach out into other communities by involving other GE Calls schools in the football competition, that provides a valid sustainability of the program.
