News | Program: Armenia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization

Capacity Building Training for School Resource Officers | 30 Oct 2014


Throughout October 10-11 and then October 24-25, 2014 respectively, two trainings were organized for 20 School Resource Officers (SRO), assigned to Yerevan and Ararat high schools. The training was organized within Armenia CALLS program and aimed to improve communication and project development skills of SROs, as well as equip them with conflict prevention and conflict resolution skills in the school environment.

All eleven NGOs and community based organizations from Hrazdan, Dilijan, Ijevan, Goris, Kapan, Metsamor, Ejmiatsin, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Gavar and Yerevan communities, which are recipients of AM CALLS program's Community Grants component, have successfully completed the implementation of their projects.

Journalist Ethics Training in Kapan | 6 May 2014


On April 13, 2014 “Kapan Child Center” Community Organization organized training on “Journalist Ethics when Targeting Vulnerable Groups”. About 12 young journalists from regional media, representatives from the local administration and psychologists participated in the training

Institute for War and Peace Reporting about the Sustainability of the CJCs in Armenia | 22 Apr 2014

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting prepared coverage about the operations and the sustainability of the 11 Community Justice Centers (CJCs) established in Armenia by PH International and the other 2 CJCs opened by Penal Reform International in cooperation with the Fund for Armenian Relief.

2-Day Seminars for Armenian Legal-Judicial Specialists on U.S. Practices of Alternative Justice for Juveniles | 22 Apr 2014


On April 15-16, 2014, within its AM CALLS program the Armenia office of PH International convened a 2-day seminar for a group of 30 Armenian judges, prosecutors and advocates. The seminar was led by a team of 2 U.S. and 3 Armenian legal-judicial specialists, who had in February of 2014 visited the U.S. for a 10-day professional development program to get acquainted with the best practices of administering Restorative Justice for Juveniles in the U.S.A.

Promoting Cooperation between the Armenian High Schools and the Police for Juveniles | 8 Apr 2014


Throughout March 25 -26 and then March 28 - 29, 2014, within the Armenia CALLS program, PH International organized 2 training events for a group of 40 Armenian police officers and 40 high school educators from different regions of Armenia. The goal of the training was to emphasize the role of the School Resource officer in high schools, increase cooperation between the juvenile officers and educators for organizing cooperative events for juveniles and to promote the rule of law in the schools.

Juvenile Justice Specialists in Armenia Talk about the Value of PH's Community Justice Centers | 5 Mar 2014

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting has met with key implementers of juvenile justice programs in Armenia and discussed the role and the value of the Community Justice Centers established in the country by PH International and later by the Fund for Armenian Relief.

U.S. Based Exchange for a Group of Armenian Legal-Judicial Experts | 26 Feb 2014


On February 22, 2014 a group of three Armenian legal-judicial professionals - judge of the first instance court of Aragatsotn Marz Ruzanna Barseghyan, a defense attorney Inessa Petrosyan, Professor of Law Artur Ghambaryan, accompanied by the AM CALLS Program manager Dzyunik Vanesyan arrived to the State of Vermont to participate in a study tour for expanding their awareness of best practices in administration of Restorative Justice for juveniles.

Local NGOs Implement Small Grants Projects within the AM CALLS Program | 24 Feb 2014


The winners of the AM CALLS Program Small Grants call are already selected. A total of 10 NGOs representing 10 Armenian communities launched their projects: “Dilijan branch of Bridge of Hope” with its “Jointly and equally“ project the objective of which is to raise the legal awareness of the students, teachers and parents and promote school-teacher-parent partnerships; “Young Tavush”, with its “Raising legal and civic awareness to reduce risky behavior cases“ project the objective of which is to raise legal and civic awareness of students from 15 communities in Ijevan, Noyemberyan and Berd in order to reduce risky behavior cases among the difficult juveniles; “Partnership and Teaching”, with its project “My right of being protected” the objective of which is to reveal and prevent cases of violence towards the juveniles and raise juvenile awareness on their rights; “Kapan Child Center”, with its project “ Promoting the rule of law”, the objective of which is to prevent juvenile crime, promote juvenile offenders' reintegration in the society, develop a tolerant and fair community equipped with legal knowledge, “Dignified Generation”, with the project “Legally aware citizens” the objective of which is to work with the juveniles to develop individuals adhering to proper mental and behavioral norms posed by the society, “Children’s Support Center”, with the project “Juvenile offense: prevention and integration, the objective of which is to have society without juvenile offenders in Hrazdan community through reducing the re-offense rate and promoting criminal justice system in Armenia based on children rights.

As a follow up of successful cooperation between PH International and the Ministry of Justice, a separate project was proposed and submitted by the state non-commercial organization “Special Art Center for Juvenile Offenders” operating under the MoJ. A mini-grant was nominated to the center for the implementation of a leadership and personal growth project for a group of children from families in which one of the parents is currently a prisoner.

Success Stories

Age Peculiarities and Adaption Practices Specific to Each Age Group | 2 Apr 2015

Over Twenty Syrian- Armenian women participated in the training organized in Yerevan by the two trainers who had recently completed training in “Non-Violent Parenting and Conflict Resolution” within the AM CALLS project. This initiative was the basis for an effective collaboration between “Save the Children” working with Syrian Armenians and PH International staff.

Motherhood and Childhood | 9 Mar 2015

On March 9, within the AM CALLS project, the “Offenders' Rehabilitation Center” State Non-Commercial Organization of the RA Ministry of Justice (MoJ) organized an event called “Motherhood and Childhood” at the Abovyan penitentiary where female convicts carry out their sentence. During the event, over ten children arrived to the penitentiary from different regions of Armenia to meet their mothers and celebrate International Women’s Day with their mothers.
