DigiGirls 2017

Russia | IT for Youth | 24 Apr 2017

From March 14h through April 14th, 2017, PH International successfully held the DigiGirlz campaign in Russia within Microsoft IT for Youth project. The goal of the campaign was to ignite girls’ interest in technology studies and IT careers, and give them the opportunity to discover their full potential with the help of technology and explore their possible IT-career paths.

We encouraged local women leaders in IT, female computer science teachers and students studying IT related courses on faculties of Information Technology in Russian universities to get the participants inspired with the achievements of women in technology, to pursue an education in information technology and #MAKEWHATSNEXT.

The events offer girls the variety of opportunities:

  • discover new IT technologies, learn about famous women inventors and their achievements in technology;
  • explore  IT careers paths;
  • meet and talk to women employees in IT industry or  IT universities students
  • get to know about free resources, opportunities and Microsoft YouthSpark programs for young people, which help to guide youngsters toward pathways of IT education and self development,
  • participate in technology workshops and master-classes on coding, algorithmic thinking, 3D-design and printing, virtual reality and using computer to create and solve everyday life tasks.

The IT for Youth project website hosted the campaign online, encouraging educators and participants learn about the campaign, its events and activities in Russia, and find valuable and interesting online resources and guidelines.

As a wrap up activity, girls were offered to visit career planning, skills and self assessment sessions, where together with their mentors, they could explore the variety of different technology career paths, test their ICT skills and take an IT career guidance training, empower themselves through coding, and learn how to create their own career action plan and education roadmap. The girls were genuinely excited about what they were learning, and eager to get more about the IT sphere.
