Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 22 Feb 2014

Students in Adjara decided to mobilize people in their schools and communities for participation in state cancer screening program. Some time ago students have signed memorandum of cooperation with Navy hospital of Batumi. The idea to conduct cancer screening among local population came up during a meeting at Navy Hospital, which has facilities for a free medical research. Students have mobilized more than 40 teachers from different schools in Adjara to take part in this activity. “The role of students in informing and mobilizing parents and teachers for participation in this program is very important. … Students learned that it is important to pay attention to own health…It is the group whom adults listen to. We decided to conduct internship program for civics students and plan to provide small grant for projects of students to promote healthy lifestyle in communities” - said Tamar Kachlishvili, Director of Navy Hospital.
