Professional Development of Civics Teachers

Professional development trainings were organized by the National Forum of Civics Teachers at the Center for Training in Consultancy in January and February. Topics for the trainings were identified in consultation with the National Examinations Centre, based on needs that were discussed during the civics teachers’ national conference in 2013. Trainings covered "Teaching Human Rights through interactive teaching methodologies" by Professor Zviad Miminoshvili, “Economics for Civics Teachers” facilitated by Professor Eka Gegeshidze, “Development of Presentation and Communication Skills” by trainer Tsira Tavshavadze and "The Basics of the World Economy” by Maya Gonashvili." Some trainings also included thematic lectures by different professionals in humanitarian law and business organization. More than 130 civics teachers from different regions of Georgia took part in the trainings. “I have received a great deal of information at the training. I learned how to teach such serious topic in a very simple and flexible way."- said Irina Melqadze – Gelashvili, civics teacher from Rustavi. “I believe I will use the knowledge and skills of presentation and communication in a class and in my everyday life”- said Ketevan Rekhviashvili, civics teacher from Tbilisi. Professional development trainings were organized in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT) which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
