On 24 December 2009, the IDEA Center in Cheboksary held a seminar in E-Government Services for job seekers, senior citizens and employees of state-run organizations and institutions. The seminar participants will use their new knowledge and skills to visit web-offices of government agencies, search for vacancies, obtain official document forms, and retrieve contact and reference information.

During the theoretical part of the seminar its participants looked at Microsoft Internet Explorer, learning about domain names and mastering basic skills of retrieving and saving information. For almost all of them it was their first introduction to the Internet, and they were truly amazed to find out how helpful the World Wide Web can be to organizations and private citizens in solving various problems without leaving the office or home. The seminar participants visited the official portal of the Chuvash Republic government to learn more about the work of republican and municipal government agencies, and discovered that the portal provides links to websites of all republican ministries and municipalities, the Republican Parliament and judicial bodies, as well as websites of federal ministries. The portal also provides more than 1000 e-government services including necessary paperwork forms.

Special attention was drawn to theunified federal Internet portal of e-government services ,
which will in time provide from 2.500 to 4.000 web-based government services. The seminar participants looked at the portal’s sections For Individuals, Life Situations, and Useful Services, retrieving various helpful information (for instance, how to receive a new passport, register real estate, obtain a statement from the land registry, etc), learned about other prospective e-government services, and retrieved contact information for federal and local government agencies.
