Conference. Naryan Mar |
The volunteer IDEA Center in Naryan Mar presented the IDEA Project and its own work at two major conferences: on 19 October 2009, at the International online conference “Libraries for the Young Generation of XXI Century: New Challenges and New Opportunities,” and on 30 October 2009 – at the inter-regional research and training conference “Developing Education and Culture in the North-Western Federal District: Past, Present and Future”.
The online conference took place on October 19 – November 2, 2009, on the web portal “Education in the Ural Region.” It was held in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Sverdlovsk regional library for youth and children. Its main goals included reviewing the outcomes of modernizing libraries for the young generation and looking for new and productive development models in the time of economic recession. The conference was based on seven different virtual sites, and its participants – librarians and administrators of municipal children’s, youth and school libraries – presented ninety-eight reports from forty-two cities and towns of the regions, the daily number of visitors on the seven conference websites reaching almost 1,000. The online conference was remarkable for its interaction and feedback level, its participants posting many comments on key presentations. The example of the IDEA Center in Naryan Mar was recognized as one of the most productive and promising models of library development in the time of economic crisis.
The inter-regional conference was held on the premises of the Nenets Retraining Institute, a long-standing partner of the Naryan Mar IDEA Center. After delivering her presentation, IDEA Center coordinator Irina Kotkina received a letter of appreciation from the Retraining Institute for her “proactive initiatives in the teacher training work of the Nenets Retraining Institute and personal contribution to postgraduate education and professional retraining in Nenets Autonomous Area.”
This recognition of the IDEA Project at two major conferences shows that the IDEA Project has earned a good reputation and popular support among many educators and librarians in Russia and beyond.
