05.11.2009 | idea | Launching IDEA’s Small Projects
In September 2009, the IDEA Project announced a small projects contest among its volunteer centers. Five out of eight projects submitted to the contest have been approved for implementation in September – December 2009.

Winners were named in the following categories:
- adapting the Unlimited Potential curriculum for Windows Vista;
- adapting the Unlimited Potential curriculum for various categories of people with disabilities and developing relevant instructional support materials;
- maintaining online forums for IDEA trainees and alumni;
- expanding the IDEA network and training trainers /IDEA Center coordinators;
- holding contests and online /distance training events for trainers/ IDEA Center coordinators;
- holding ICT contests for IDEA’s target groups.

All the submissions to the contest were interesting and in keeping with the contest’s objectives, but only five projects were selected for practical implementation:

1) Training Оf Тrainers Project for IDEA Volunteers (Omsk, NTS School). The training contains several modules including those on teaching skills, methods of teaching ICT technologies and public speaking. The project is aimed at training trainers for working with special education classes and groups of people with disabilities. One of the project’s outcomes will be establishing an official instructional support forum for IDEA trainers, instructors and volunteers in Omsk.

2) Online Computer School Project (Ulan Ude, central municipal library) providing computer training for children from underserved and low-income families including Microsoft Unlimited Potential courses in Computer Fundamentals, Internet and World Wide Web Fundamentals, Word Processing Fundamentals and Presentation Fundamentals

3) “Training for Coordinators and Trainers from Military Schools in Altai” (Barnaul, the Coordinating Center for Military Schools Development and Support). The project’s key objectives are:
- expanding the IDEA network and training trainers/coordinators of new volunteer IDEA Centers based in military schools of Altai Area;
- holding a training seminar in Barnaul for trainers/coordinators of new volunteer IDEA Centers based in military schools of Altai Area;
- developing and maintaining a special online forum for IDEA trainees and alumni from military schools of Altai Area.

4) Window on the World Project (Yakutsk, the National Library of the Sakha Republic (Yuakutiya)). The project aims to hold a contest among libraries of the Sakha Republic – a contest of social programs and educational courses for people with disabilities.

5) “We Can Do This Together!” (Yoshkar Ola, Semyonovka Village, the Mariy El special education boarding school for children with hearing loss. The project includes holding a contest of multimedia projects among students of Mariy El special education schools, seeking to increase the overall level of ICT competence among the students with a special emphasis on MS РоwеrРоint skills.

The IDEA Project wishes the winners every success in implementing these projects, reaching all of the stated objectives and achieving optimal results.
